Bio

Patrice Peck is an award-winning writer and artist based in Los Angeles and Brooklyn. Her work amplifies issues and stories at the intersection of art, culture, and Black identity and has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Vogue, Essence, Cosmopolitan, The Atlantic, MSNBC, BBC, and more. She is also founder of The Wakeful, a newsletter spotlighting the latest news about Black girls and women.

Patrice’s artistic background, which includes curation, performance art, and photography, grapples with underreported news, audience engagement, and the nuance of language. Her work has been shown in Kleine Humboldt Galerie and she has collaborated with art advisory firm Clark Priftis Art on exhibition catalogues.

In April 2020, she launched the newsletter Coronavirus News for Black Folks, which has been spotlighted by WIRED Magazine, Nieman Journalism Lab, CBS News, and The Root, among others. She was also recognized alongside Dr. Antohony Fauci, Al Gore, Ava DuVernay, and Swizz Beatz on WIRED25, an annual list highlighting people who are making the world a better place.

Patrice has a bachelor's degree with honors in English and Black Studies from Amherst College, a master's degree in journalism from NYU, and lives in both Los Angeles and Brooklyn.
